Patient Choice

Patients now have the right to choose which hospital they would like to be referred to for treatment. The hospitals that our patients can be referred to are The Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, The North Hants Hospital in Basingstoke, Portsmouth NHS Trust Hospitals, Southampton University Hospitals Trust and Salisbury Health Care NHS Trust. A leaflet is available from the surgery giving some details of each of these hospitals which may help patients decide on their choice. Unfortunately information on waiting times is not readily available at the present time and the doctors cannot give this advice but will if asked give their guidance when making a referral for you.

Appointments

The doctors do try to run on time we know how annoying it can be to be delayed but this is not always possible.

Delays can occur due to emergencies or appointments over-running the 10 minutes allocated. Patients are reminded that a double appointment should be requested if you have a complicated problem or a number of issues to see the doctor about.

Repeat Prescriptions

We are getting an increasing number of patients expecting to get repeat prescriptions immediately. Can we issue another reminder that we need two working days to turn prescriptions around and patients should submit them in good time.

We will accept requests by fax or e-mail (mhscripts.alresford@nhs.net) or in paper form. Telephone requests are not accepted for two reasons. The main reason is that of accuracy, it is easy to make a mistake writing down items that are often difficult to pronounce, the second is that realistically we could not cope with a large number of lengthy telephone calls.

Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
