Diabetic Patients - Retinal Screening

We are very pleased that retinal screening is now available from the surgery for all patients suffering from diabetes who do not receive this service at the hospital. Patients will receive an invitation to attend within the next 9 months.

A mobile van will visit the surgery at regular intervals and patients will be invited to attend at a specified time. If you cannot make the appointment offered please contact the surgery for an alternative. It would help us considerably if, when you receive your invitation, you could contact us to confirm that you will be able to attend.

The screening involves taking an photograph of the eye which is then examined to ensure all is well and compared against subsequent screening results. We recommend that you attend this service as well as maintaining any regular appointments with your optician.

The van is, unfortunately, difficult to access for patients who have difficulty getting up steps. If you feel that you would be unable to manage the 3 steps please let us know and alternative arrangements will be sought.

Over 65s - Pneumococcal vaccination

All patients over 65 who have not already been vaccinated will shortly be invited to contact the surgery to make an appointment to have this vaccination. A leaflet will be enclosed with the letter giving advice on the benefits. This is part of a national programme and the partners strongly recommend that patients have this once in a lifetime vaccination.

Because of the numbers involved we will not be combining this vaccination with the flu jab offered in the autumn.

Voluntary Care Group

Volunteer drivers are badly needed by this to help transport patients by this greatly valued group. If you have a car, some spare time and might like to help contact Barbara Griffiths (01962 734408) or Beryl Yeldham (01962 732695) for more details.

Preston Candover Surgery

There will be no clinic available on Thursday 2 June.
