Flu clinics
Autumn is approaching and we are supporting the NHS recommendation that the following groups
of patients call to have their 'free' flu jab. Flu can be a particularly serious illness to those
at risk and is the cause of about 12,000 deaths every winter. Hospitals also come under
increasing pressure due to admissions for flu related illnesses and this can lead to cancellation
of operations and other treatments. Last year 1700 of our patients who were entitled to the free
vaccination took advantage of it and we hope to get an even higher response this year.
We strongly recommend that the following people should have the vaccination:
- Everyone who will be 65 or over by 31st December
- All those with chromic respiratory disease
- Patients who have been diagnosed with Asthma and need regular use of inhaled or systemic steroids.
- All patients who have diabetes
- Patients with renal disease
- Patients who have immunosuppression.
We are running four main clinics this year which we hope will be helpful to our patients.
The dates are:
| Wednesday 1st October | 2-3.30 |
| Wednesday 8th October | 2-3.30 |
| Thursday 9th October | 2-3.00 |
| Thursday 16th October | 2-3.00 |
and Preston Candover Village Hall Thursday 9th October 9.00-10.00 (the normal doctors surgery
will run as usual).
There will be additional clinics later in October and November for those that cannot make
these times but dates have not yet been finalised.
GP Registrar
Dr Julie Thomas has completed her year with us and we wish her well. We welcome our new
Registrar, Dr Sarah Zarroug, who is now running her first surgeries.
